About this event
The Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community has experienced a dramatic spike in the number of hate crimes in the past year. According to the organization Stop AAPI Hate there have been at least 6,603 documented attacks from March 2020 to March 2021, and leaders say the true number is much higher as many attacks go unreported. #StopAAPIHate
Join Indivisible Illinois Social Justice Alliance (IISJA) and Northwest Suburban Organizing for Action (NWSOFA) in welcoming a panel to discuss:
- The background of anti-Asian hate crimes
- How hate crimes and marginalization are part of a broader problem of racism that has historically pitted communities against each other in order to preserve the status quo
- Why keeping communities safe does not always mean more police
- How you can be an Ally
