Indivisible Illinois Holds Statewide Convention This Saturday
*Speakers to Include Rev. Dr. William Barber, Ezra Levin, Heather Booth*
Indivisible Illinois holds its first-ever statewide meeting this Saturday from 1-5 pm.
Called the Indivisible Illinois Convening, this Zoom convention will feature an array of nationally famous speakers and interactive sessions on voting rights, voter registration, rural issues, messaging to counter misinformation campaigns, and much more.
Keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. William Barber II, co-founder of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Recipient of a 2018 MacArthur Foundation “genius grant,” Barber has become the face of the national movement to confront racial and economic inequality in this country.
Also speaking will be national Indivisible co-founder and co-executive director Ezra Levin, named recently as one of TIME’s 100 most influential people and, along with wife Leah Greenberg, considered by Politico as among the top 50 visionaries transforming American politics today. He will be followed by noted civil rights activist and political strategist Heather Booth, considered one of the top go-to people for progressive leaders that include Senator Elizabeth Warren.
“Ever since 2017, Indivisible Illinois has worked across Illinois’ metro, suburban, and rural divides to help pass the American Rescue Act and historic Illinois legislative wins around climate, reproductive justice, and more,” says Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, co-coordinator of Indivisible Illinois. “Now we’re focusing on President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda to move this country forward so working people can finally reap the benefits of our Democratic win of 2020. That’s what our Convening is all about.”
The Convening is also proud to present a free training from the nationally renowned messaging experts from Words That W!N. This one-hour session is designed to give activists the tools they need to craft messages that counter dog-whistle politics and disinformation.
Indivisible Illinois includes chapters from all over the state, including the Metro East/E. St. Louis area, Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal, Quincy, Peoria, Sauk Valley, Crystal Lake, Shawnee-Southern Illinois region, and several chapters in the Chicago metropolitan area.
