In Antiracism

Please join our Antiracist Work Group (AWG) this Sunday Jan 3 from 10-11am CT

This month, we will be reading the book Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Layla Saad. This Sunday, will talk about the introduction (up to page 24) and plan for our discussions for the rest of the month. The author suggests using The Circle Way model for group discussion (pages 211-225) and, while it is similar to our current style, there are some notable differences to discuss. Here is a 2 page primer on The Circle Way (same content included in the book).

Anyone interested in doing this work is welcome to join us. If you have not attended our meetings before, please join the call at 9:45am CT so we can get properly introduced before the call begins. Please also note that our meetings close at 10:05am in order to be respectful to all attendees.

About the Book

From the author’s website:

Me and White Supremacy leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too.

From the publisher’s website:

This book will walk you step-by-step through the work of examining:

  • Examining your own white privilege
  • What allyship really means
  • Anti-blackness, racial stereotypes, and cultural appropriation
  • Changing the way that you view and respond to race
  • How to continue the work to create social change

Interview with the author to read or listen to on NPR:

A note about pacing

While there are 28 daily prompts in the book, it’s also important to do this work at your own pace. If you decide to take more time with the prompts, don’t let that stop you from joining our discussions. Regardless of the pace that you choose, you are welcome at any time to discuss your experience with the prompt(s) that you are working on.
